{"id":894,"date":"2019-11-05T07:05:45","date_gmt":"2019-11-05T07:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesoil.co.zw\/?p=894"},"modified":"2019-11-05T07:05:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T07:05:47","slug":"new-terms-for-funding-on-command-agric","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thesoil.co.zw\/index.php\/2019\/11\/05\/new-terms-for-funding-on-command-agric\/","title":{"rendered":"New terms for funding on Command agric"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Regina Pasipanodya<\/p>\n<p>The Government of Zimbabwe has introduced new funding conditions for Command Agriculture that require farmers to approach banks for support in grain production during the 2019-20 summer cropping season.<br \/>\nAccording to the government, the move will help the farmers to boost production and do away with unscrupulous business people who used to abuse inputs under Command Agriculture.<br \/>\nThe government has entered into partnerships with Agribank, CBZ, Stanbic and Women\u2019s Bank to manage and disburse funds for the programme.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-896\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/thesoil.co.zw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Agriculture-300x211.jpg\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thesoil.co.zw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Agriculture-300x211.jpg 300w, http:\/\/thesoil.co.zw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Agriculture.jpg 474w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nImage Credit: The Herald Zimbabwe<\/p>\n<p>These banks shall support A1, A2 and other large-scale farmers into soya-bean and maize production.<br \/>\nZimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU) president Mr. Wonder Chabikwa yesterday said farmers welcomed the new conditions as Government has guaranteed the availability of the loans.<br \/>\nHe said the facility would benefit \u201creal farmers\u201d who are hardworking while boosting the sustainability of agricultural funding.<br \/>\n\u201cReal farmers farm for-profit and pay back loans. When all things are normal farmers pay back loans as they will want to continue benefiting from the facility. By accessing loans through the banks, cases of people abusing inputs will be limited,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nMr. Chabikwa said some farmers were afraid of the risk associated with bank loans.<br \/>\nHe said some years back, farmers lost properties to banks after failing to pay back loans.<br \/>\n\u201cSome farmers are afraid of applying for bank loans because of the background relations they had with the financial institutions.<br \/>\n\u201cOn Command Agriculture, farmers had some protection especially when yields were affected by natural disasters such as drought or hailstorm,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe tenure of the loans is 270 days at an interest rate of 10,5 percent per annum and an upfront fee of 2,25 percent<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Regina Pasipanodya The Government of Zimbabwe has introduced new funding conditions for Command Agriculture that require farmers to approach banks for support in grain production during the 2019-20 summer cropping season.
