Advocates4earth has outlined issues that have been affecting the climate changes in Zimbabwe and the possible solutions that can be implemented by the government and the citizens.

At a seminar recently held in Harare, the chairperson for Advocates4earth ,Mr Lenin Chisaira stated that Zimbabwe cannot adapt to climate change.He also added on to say that there is no sustainable source of income and this has led to most people to practice ways which damage the climate

“Zimbabwe cannot adapt to climate changes, if natural hazards hit the country there are not enough resources to avoid them into becoming a disaster ,””Lack of sources of income has forced many into practicing activities that are damaging the climate ,many people have no option than to farm and do other activities in a way that is not favourable for the climate,” he said .

Chisaira added on to say that developing countries contribute more in emissions and are not eager to discuss how to solve the impacting problems caused by climate changes which are emanating.

He added on to say developed countries need to cooperate in climate change discussions in finding solutions.

“We need to change the economy and politics and not the climate. We don’t have climate laws in Zimbabwe unlike other countries like Kenya .Developed countries need to cooperate in climate change discussions ,”said Lenin Chisaira .

Another representative from Sustainable Development ,Mrs Anna Brazier also said that Industrialised countries are the most contributors to climate changes and have become wealthier than the developing countries through emissions.

“Most industrialised countries like the USA and Australia have caused environmental catastrophes.In order to become rich, these countries have polluted and the change in climate has tremendously affected the developing countries,” she said.

A member of parliament Honourable Concillia Chinanzvavana added that politicians need to be educated about climate changes. She said that several members of parliament are ignorant about wetlands and several other things and the experts have to teach the members of parliament about the issues so that they construct possible measures that govern the conservation of the environment.

Other speakers at the event included Mrs. Elizabeth Gulugulu from the African Youth Initiative on Climate Change who said that the youth must be given the chance to express their ideas on the climate change issues during debates and Mr. Kudakwashe Manyanga representing Climate Change management department who said that Zimbabwe needs funding to be able to tackle climate change problems.
Zimbabwe has been experiencing several natural disasters caused by climate change.
